How to Remove Acrylic Nails at Home
Materials you'll need:
- Acetone nail polish remover
- Cotton balls or pads
- Aluminum foil
- Nail clippers or scissors
- Cuticle pusher or orange stick
- (Optional) Non-acetone nail polish remover
Step 1: Remove most of the length
Use nail clippers or scissors to carefully trim down the acrylic nails as short as possible. This will make the removal process easier and quicker.
Step 2: Soak your nails in acetone
Fill a small bowl or dish with acetone nail polish remover. Immerse your nails in the acetone for 10-15 minutes, or until the acrylic starts to soften and lift.
Step 3: Wrap your nails in foil
Tear off pieces of aluminum foil and wrap them tightly around each nail. This will help to trap the acetone and keep it in contact with the acrylic.
Step 4: Remove the acrylic
After 10-15 minutes, remove the foil and gently push away the softened acrylic from your natural nails using a cuticle pusher or orange stick. Be careful not to use too much force, as you don't want to damage your natural nails.
Step 5: Repeat if necessary
If all of the acrylic has not been removed, repeat steps 2-4 until it is completely gone.
Step 6: Clean your nails
Once the acrylic has been removed, wash your hands with soap and water to remove any remaining acetone. Apply cuticle oil or moisturizer to your nails to help them recover from the removal process.
Alternative method: Non-acetone removal
If you don't have acetone nail polish remover, you can also remove acrylic nails using non-acetone nail polish remover. However, this method will take longer and may not be as effective. To remove acrylic nails using non-acetone nail polish remover, follow these steps: 1. Soak your nails in non-acetone nail polish remover for 30-60 minutes, or until the acrylic starts to soften and lift. 2. Wrap your nails in foil and leave them on for 30-60 minutes. 3. Remove the foil and gently push away the softened acrylic from your natural nails using a cuticle pusher or orange stick. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 until all of the acrylic has been removed. 5. Wash your hands with soap and water to remove any remaining nail polish remover. 6. Apply cuticle oil or moisturizer to your nails to help them recover from the removal process. No matter which method you choose, remember to be patient and take your time. Removing acrylic nails can be a bit time-consuming, but it's important to do it correctly to avoid damaging your natural nails.
